Net Searching

Year 3 children have been learning how to use simple search technologies and have found that some sources are more reliable than others. They looked at a website for dogs http://www.thedogisland.com/ which, at first glance looked quite reliable but is in fact a spoof website. The children then created their own spoof websites using Purple Mash. #Year3 #Computing #ESafety

Opaque, Translucent or Transparent?

This afternoon we have been testing different materials so we could group and classify them as opaque, translucent or transparent. We found that the window was transparent as you could see through it and it lets through light. The cellophane was translucent as you could see through it slightly and it made the light scatter. Finally, the card was opaque as it didn't let light through. #Science #Year3

Science Club

This week we have been looking at friction. We overlapped pages of a book and found them really hard to pull apart. This was due to a high amount of friction. We thought about what the world would be like with little or no friction. We then had a competition using jelly and skewers. We had to use the skewers to transfer the jelly cubes from one plate to another. We then made it harder by reducing the amount of friction by adding oil on to the jelly! It was hard work! #Science #ScienceClub

Over the past couple of weeks, we have been learning all about volcanoes. Today, we created our own eruption using baking soda, washing up liquid, water and vinegar. #Geography #Year3

Autumn Walk

This week in literacy we having been thinking about our autumn walk and writing a recount of the event. We thought about what we did and what we saw. The sentence we were all learning to write was; I WENT ON AN AUTUMN WALK AND I SAW. See if your child can finish the sentence and tell you what they saw. During our writing we were trying to include finger spaces, phonic sounds and full stops. In phonics we have been learning our next set of letters - Hh Bb Ff. We practised reading and writing with our new sounds. We have also started learning our new family of cursive letters - Robot Arms. See if your child can remember how to write these new letters. #Reception #Literacy #English
