Victorian Day in Year 6
Year 6 enjoyed a Victorian day in school this week to celebrate the end of their topic work on The Victorians. Children (and staff) were invited to dress up for the day and spent the morning experiencing what life in a Victorian school was like: children were inspected before entering the classroom; paid the teacher for their education; had to stand up when adults entered the room as a sign of respect; did not speak unless spoken to and were made to sit and work in silence! Children were separated for some lessons: boys did technical drawing and the girls baked.
In the afternoon, parents were invited to join us and take part in variety of tradition Victorian Christmas craft activities. It was lovely to see mums and dads sitting
with their children sewing, colouring and chatting together. We finished the afternoon with a recital of the poem 'Twas the Night Before Christmas, carol singing and eating mince pies. Thank you to all parents for your support - hope you enjoyed the day as much as we did!
