Mike Smith

I have been a governor of Avondale school for nine years, although I have had links with the school for much longer, as both my daughters were pupils here and my wife also taught at Avondale.

I am now retired. During my working career I was a deputy headteacher and professional partnership tutor with the University of Cumbria. In my role as governor, I am able to use my experience and skills in education for the benefit of the children and the governing board of Avondale school.

I am kept very busy with my three grandchildren, but still find time to develop my interest in the local community. I currently have the role of secretary of the Friends of Sunnyhurst Wood.
